Unsubscribe
The action taken by a recipient to opt out or discontinue receiving further email communications from a particular sender or mailing list. When an individual unsubscribes, it indicates their preference to no longer receive emails from the sender, and this request is typically facilitated through a designated unsubscribe link or mechanism included in the email footer. Compliance with unsubscribe requests is a key aspect of email marketing regulations to ensure recipients have control over their subscription preferences.
While various regions around the world have different requirements regarding opt-in and double opt-in, it is universally the case that you must stop sending emails to a contact once they unsubscribe. It's important to retain subscriber status across ESPs and during migrations to remain compliant.
It's also important to note that while ESPs like Breaker provide unsubscribe links to recipients, if you recieve a reply from a contact asking to unsubscribe, you must unsubscribe that contact to remain in compliance.
And, of course, an unsubscribed contact may explicitly re-subscribe anytime.
